The days of paper prescriptions are nearly gone. Thanks to an act of Congress in 2003, 95% of U.S. retail pharmacies now process electronic prescriptions. This capability means that our physicians can simply prescribe your medication and send it electronically to the pharmacy of your choice. Here’s how it works.
- SwiftMD has created a strategic alliance with Surescripts — the largest network provider of electronic subscription services.
- When you complete your health record, you’ll select a pharmacy that’s convenient to where you live or work.
- Should you need medication following a consult, our physician will check your record through Surescripts to avoid unwanted drug interactions, then deliver your new prescription to your chosen pharmacy.
- The pharmacy will then fill your prescription and have it ready for pick up or deliver it to your home.

Surescripts was founded by two associations that represent more than 55,000 pharmacies in the U.S., specifically to create the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange. This exchange enables physicians and pharmacists to quickly and securely share prescription information. The result is greater accuracy, enhanced patient safety and faster turnaround on prescriptions.
SwiftMD physicians can also order lab tests for members.
Again, SwiftMD has contracted with leaders in the medical industry — Quest and Labcorp. Combined, these two labs offer thousands of locations nationwide. Should you need lab tests, your SwiftMD doctor will order them, and you’ll be directed to the Quest or Labcorp facility nearest you. Test results are sent electronically to SwiftMD, and you will receive notification in your member portal, or a SwiftMD provider will call you to discuss the results.
